About Us

MISSION AT ABC PLUS

About Our Kindergarden

The mission of ABC Plus Childcare Center is to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children in Brooklyn, NY. We are committed to promoting children's growth and development through high-quality education and care services. At ABC Plus, we offer a range of programs, including 3K, Head Start, Pre-K, and a private program for toddlers. We also accept ACS vouchers for our toddler program, making our services accessible to families in the community.

What sets us apart from other child care centers in the area is our commitment to providing a nurturing environment where children feel safe and loved. Many of our teaching staff are also parents, which means that they understand the needs of young children and are passionate about providing high-quality care and education. We are a diverse school, with staff who are fluent in English, Russian, Ukrainian, and Spanish. We strive to create a culturally responsive environment where all children feel welcomed and included.

Our new building features state-of-the-art facilities, including new toys and equipment that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for children. We serve three hot meals and two snacks daily, with nutritious meals that are prepared by our licensed vendor. Additionally, we offer STEM-focused extracurricular activities as part of our extended day program after 3 pm, providing children with opportunities to explore the world around them through hands-on learning experiences.

At ABC Plus, we are committed to providing high-quality care and education to every child who walks through our doors. We believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment, and we strive to create that environment every day.

FUN & NURTURING ENVIRONMENT

A fun and nurturing preschool environment is one where children feel safe and loved while also being engaged in stimulating activities. In this type of environment, children are encouraged to explore and learn through play, with teachers who are attentive to their needs and interests. A nurturing environment also fosters a sense of belonging, where children feel valued and respected for who they are, and where positive relationships are fostered between children, teachers, and families. Through a combination of fun and play-based learning experiences, children can develop the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills they need to succeed in school and in life

AGE-APPROPRIATE CURRICULUM

Age-appropriate curriculum is important in preschool because it is designed to meet the developmental needs and abilities of young children. Preschoolers have unique learning styles and abilities, and age-appropriate curriculum takes these factors into account, ensuring that children are engaged in learning experiences that are appropriate for their age and stage of development. A curriculum that is tailored to the needs of young children can help to foster a love of learning and promote positive outcomes in areas such as language development, social skills, and academic achievement. By providing a curriculum that is appropriate for their age, preschoolers can develop a strong foundation for future learning and success.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

Family engagement is crucial in our child care center, especially for our Head Start students. Research shows that when families are actively involved in their children's education, it can lead to positive outcomes such as increased academic achievement, better social-emotional development, and improved attendance. At our child care center, we believe that family engagement is a partnership between families and educators to support children's learning and development. We actively encourage families to participate in their child's education by attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering in the classroom, and participating in family events. For our Head Start students, family engagement is a key component of the program and is required by federal law. By working together with families, we can create a supportive learning environment that promotes success for all children in our care.

QUALIFIED & CERTIFIED TEACHERS

In New York City, the Department of Education requires that Pre-K and 3K teachers hold a valid New York State teaching certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2) or a related field. Additionally, teachers must have completed a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. In addition to these qualifications, teachers must also demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the New York State Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core, which outlines the skills and knowledge that children should develop in the Pre-K and 3K years. Finally, all Pre-K and 3K teachers are required to complete ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices and to improve their teaching skills. These requirements ensure that children in Pre-K and 3K programs are taught by qualified and knowledgeable teachers who are equipped to support their learning and development.
